  There are three things that you can include or exclude.
Most Important - Clearly show in the larger letters what is most important for your business to attract customers. This may include large letters that offer a price or offer services.
Next Important - Such things as a phone number if relevant, a website address etc or when the offer expires.
Least Important - Such things as an address in small letters, conditions etc.

If you always put what is most important in large letters, the sign will be successful. The other components are not mandatory.

  Use larger letters in a contrasting color.

Contrasting colors mean if a backing is white, use Black, Reflex Blue, a Bright Red etc. Avoid hues and tints for large letters.

  Use large letters and fonts that are simple to read. We all love customized fonts, special characters and fancy fonts, but these do not always read well.

  Use a 3 -5 word headline.
Headlines on signs and the capturing words are critical. Sit down with your staff and market your business with words.

  Pick words that sell. Avoid following the old way of just putting a name on a banner sign. If you can use marketing principles such as WIIFM, do it. What's In It For Me.

  Use Fonts that assist your colors. This means, if you choose a bright yellow background, dont use fonts that are too thin or too light.
If the color is a deep blue back, use bright white fonts in bold. Design your signage for readability above all else.
