Adding Real Life Shots and Product Pics Views 640

Sydney Signs This page has a highly scanned picture of a product on the printing banner sign. The picture explains exactly what the customer's business is all about and points out that by adding a human interface to the design the work performs better. In addition the imitation Polaroid bounding box allows for a shadow to create a 3d sign effect. To make this style of sign design we suggest that you use your own digital camera to a take a photo at the largest setting and stand back so that you get some of the background. This helps because you can then place the photo into a drawing program and using the pen tool make a path around the body, clothes and head etc and resize the image into an output file. If you dont allow enough free space around the imagery, placing may be restricted and not give you the maximum freedom.

Once the file is made, use another program for the layout and draw one to one or at a size that suits the capacities of your computer. A noteworthy point is that files made for PDF are restricted to 4.9 metres (after that size, Acrobat maxes out). Take careful note of scales and draw in proportion.
  • Other interesting pages with pictures
  • Strathfield Signs NSW the pic also shows how cutting and placing can be used
  • Parramatta Signs NSW the pic of the young teenager on a folding street sign shows the girl cut and placed on a salmon pink backing. Great work and large file size.
Putting an image like any of the above onto your sign allows use for heavy weight banners, building signs or shop displays easily once you complete the original. We'd also suggest that you split your file saving into different folders. E.g. Master - Working and Output.

To send a file over the internet, please convert fonts to outlines (objects) and/or send the font folder to us. To send a font folder over the internet, locate the font in your explorer and attach. Please do not zip or compress as it may not be accepted by spam controllers (either at servers, internet providers etc.) Original fonts are best used as when a professional font package is used, the font designer pays attention to kerning, curve heights etc.

Melbourne Signs and Graphics Printing is available for all types of signage. Please go the 'best of pages'.

Another Photoshop trick is to make a path selection around the face of a person and remove any blemishes by using the clone stamp tool. To use this tool, make a setting of 5x5 pixel. It will average the selection. Do this on a newly created layer for best control.

A great page for this is Gladstone Signs where the pics all have later been 'blemish freed'.

FAQ - Can you use an image from my digital camera ? No. 87
Yes, great idea. Taking your own photography removes cost. To do so, please send the highest pixel quality setting on your digital camera. The higher the camera setting, the more color information, the better the print color at sign size.

Making a Sign from a Digital Camera Views 640

Frequently, people ask how is the best way to take a photo from their digital camera so that they can use it when making a signage file.
1. Take the shot at the maximum setting available to you on your camera, and ensure that the focus is set to the product, not the foreground or elements in the background. If you camera is auto focusing, please focus on the product. If taking a shot of a person, focus on the eyelids. When you capture the accurate focus of eyebrows and eyelids, the rest of the face including the nose will be better.
2. Where possible, take the shot outdoors where the light is better. Avoid red eye syndrome at all costs. It will require further processing otherwise.
3. This is a great tip, keep shooting. The more shots you have, the better the choice for the final selection.
4. If a group shot, stand back and get some 'free' area around all people.

To send to us:
a) Save the file as a jpeg in RGB and attach the largest. The team will convert to sign production color.
b) If you manipulate - adjust your own photos, please remember that computer monitors all show color differently. So your final work may be slightly different for sign printing. An article explaining color and computers is here.
c) Ask for pixel test or do it yourself. A pixel test is when the print is shown at full image dot size. To do this, cut and paste a small section into a new file and show at 'actual print size'. Our systems use a rounded pixel format.

FAQ - How should I give you my artwork ? No. 82
1. For photographic work
Original Files flattened to a PDF document in CMYK format
2. For line Drawing / cutting
Original Files in a Vector format. Convert all fonts to objects and any outlines should be a scalable contour.

If you are using another professional graphic design agency for your graphics, please have them call us to discuss any rego marks etc.
